Mind Body Dynamics

Counselling Psychologist in Brighton & Hove

I offer individual therapy on an open-ended basis or for an agreed period of time.

The sessions often have a structured approach and fall on the same time and day each week, unless agreed otherwise. Depending on what you want to achieve from therapy, I work together with you to help you understand and make sense of your difficulties, as well as to develop effective coping skills and strategies to move forward.

What are the fees for a consultation and therapy session?

The fee for an initial consultation is £90.

The fee for a session is between £90-£100 (I reserve a few spaces at the lower fee structure for students/trainees and those who are on lower incomes).

For therapy sessions funded by private health insurance, please contact your insurer before hand to arrange authorisation of your sessions. I am a recognised practitioner with Bupa, Aviva, Vitality Health and AXA-PPP.

A full fee will be charged when a client misses or cancels a session without giving 24 hours notice or more. You can cancel your session by emailing info@mindbodydynamics.co.uk, or contacting me on 07414 132700.

What does the therapy session fee include?

There are quite a few things that are taken into consideration. One of the main factors being the nature of the work as a psychologist, and obviously the time spent with a client in a session. Other factors typically include; session preparation, practice of skills and strategies, creating psychology resources and documents that are tailored to a client's needs, phone support between sessions (as per therapy contract), note-taking and room fees.

Exemptions

The fee may be waived in exceptional circumstances such as a serious illness or an emergency. It may also be waived if the client can reschedule their appointment within the same week, based on room availability. This may incur an extra charge to cover the new room booking.

If you would like to know more about my service and how I can help you, please contact me on 07414 132700 or info@mindbodydynamics.co.uk.

What happens in the initial consultation?

In the initial consultation, we will discuss your concerns and reasons for seeking therapy. This usually involves asking questions about your background and understanding your needs, as well as what you would like to achieve in therapy.

It is also an opportunity to see if I am the right psychologist for you, to ask any questions and voice particular concerns. You are under no obligation to commit to working with me after the first meeting if you feel that I am not right for you.

How many sessions do I need?

If you decide to pursue therapy, a session usually takes place once a week but no fixed number of sessions is required. It depends on your personal needs and circumstances and what you want out of therapy. This can be discussed and negotiated with me in the initial meeting and reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Feel free to call me for an initial chat on 07414 132700. Sometimes it is useful for someone to hear my voice to form a first impression. Otherwise you can always drop me an email!

GDPR Lawful Bases

The GDPR states that I must have a lawful basis for processing your personal data. There are different lawful bases depending on the stage at which I am processing your data. I have explained these below:

If you have had therapy with me and it has now ended, I will use legitimate interest as my lawful basis for holding and using your personal information.

If you are currently having therapy or if you are in contact with me to consider therapy, I will process your personal data where it is necessary for the performance of our contract.

The GDPR also makes sure that I look after any sensitive personal information that you may disclose to me appropriately. This type of information is called ‘special category personal information’. The lawful basis for me processing any special categories of personal information is that it is for provision of health treatment (in this case psychological therapy) and necessary fora contract with a health professional (in this case, a contract between me and you).

How I use your information

When you contact me with an enquiry about my services I will collect information to help me with your enquiry. This will include your name, phone number and email address. Alternatively, your GP or other health professional may send me your details when making a referral or a trusted individual may give me your details when making an enquiry on your behalf.

If you decide not to proceed, I will ensure all your personal data is destroyed within two weeks. If you would like me to delete this information sooner, please let me know.

While you are accessing therapy everything you discuss with me is kept confidential. That confidentiality will only be broken if:

  1. If you disclose information about a criminal offence or conduct that puts others or yourself at serious risk of harm. This will be discussed with you before disclosure if it does not further compromise anyone's personal safety.
  2. During judicial proceedings. In certain circumstances, a court can order information pertaining to notes taken during therapy to give evidence.
  3. During professional clinical supervision. This is a formal process in which psychologists and psychotherapists are required to discuss their work with a senior clinical supervisor, on a regular basis, to ensure that ethical and professional standards are maintained, and to enhance effectiveness as a practitioner. Your full name will not be shared with the supervisor.

I will always try to speak to you about this first, unless there are safeguarding issues that prevent this.

I will keep a record of your personal details to help the therapy services run smoothly. These details are kept securely on my laptop and storage file and are not shared with any third party.

After therapy has ended your records will be kept for seven years, in line with guidance from my insurer, from the end of our contact and then securely destroyed. If you want me to delete your information sooner than this, please let me know.

Your rights

I try to be as open as I can be in terms of giving people access to their personal information. You have a right to ask me to delete your personal information, to limit how I use your personal information, or to stop processing your personal information.

You also have a right to ask for a copy of any information that I hold about you and to object to the use of your personal data in some circumstances. You can read more about your rights at ico.org.uk/your-data-matters.

  • tell you why I am holding its, tell you how long I will store your data and how I made this decision;
  • tell you who it could be disclosed to;
  • let you have a copy of the information in an intelligible form.

You can also ask me at any time to correct any mistakes there may be in the personal information I hold about you.
